Description
The Word Counter is a lightweight text-analysis tool that gives you an instant statistical breakdown of anything you paste or type into it: total words, characters with spaces, characters without spaces, sentences, paragraphs, and an estimated reading time based on an average adult reading speed of roughly two hundred to two hundred fifty words per minute. These metrics update live as you edit, making it easy to trim a meta description to one hundred sixty characters, hit a five-hundred-word minimum for a blog post, or confirm that an essay meets an assignment's length requirement. Beyond counting, the tool serves as a distraction-free writing surface — a clean, single-purpose editor where you can draft copy, proofread, or restructure text without the clutter of a full word processor. It handles Unicode, emoji, and multilingual text correctly, counting each distinct word and character as expected regardless of script. The Word Counter is valuable for copywriters drafting ad copy with strict character limits, bloggers targeting SEO-friendly post lengths, students meeting essay word-count requirements, social media managers fitting text into platform constraints, translators comparing source and target lengths, and developers checking string lengths for database fields or UI labels. Unlike cloud-based writing tools, everything here runs locally in your browser — the text you paste is never sent to a server, uploaded, or stored, making it safe for confidential drafts, private notes, legal copy, and unpublished manuscripts. There is no sign-up, no subscription, no advertising, and no cap on the amount of text you can analyze. Use it as your go-to reference whenever you need a quick, private, accurate count of exactly how much text you are working with.

Formula & methodology
Reading time is estimated by dividing the word count by an average silent reading speed of about 200 words per minute, then rounding up to the nearest minute. Adjust your expectation for technical text, which reads slower.
